Opened in 1965,Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens was a 12 acre wood-lined cemetery and the first such cemetery “East of the Cooper,” just outside historic Charleston, SC. Located on scenic Mathis Ferry Road in Mount Pleasant, SC, the property was carefully developed in order to preserve the beauty and majesty of the Live Oak tree entrance and driveway. In 1982, cousins William S. Stuhr, Sr., Harry Stuhr and Johnny Stuhr purchased the cemetery from its
original owner, adding more of these age old Live Oak trees to the beautifully preserved grounds.

Today, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens has grown from the original 12 acre grounds to a 23 acre perpetual care cemetery. With still undeveloped acreage available, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens offers a wide variety of interment options. From two different Veterans Gardens and ground spaces near granite features, to our beautiful Georgian columned mausoleums, you are sure to find a suitable location as your final resting place. For our families interested in Cremation, we offer Wall Cremation Niches for the permanent holding of one urn and a free-standing Niche Columbarium available for the permanent holding of two urns together.
